The Murder Scene

The paddock, amass with wattle scrub, belonged to Mr Frank Moran.   Two native trackers look for clues while Constable Joe Murphy (no relation to the victims) is seen kneeling at the spot were Michael and his younger sister were found back-to-back, their fingers almost touching.  Nora was found to the right at the foot of the big spotted gum, lying on a neatly laid out rug.  The dog-cart shows the broken shaft where the horse fell upon it, after the fatal shot. To the left, a white coat hangs on a sapling to mark blood spots, and the horse’s legs can be seen between the tree and the cart after being severed, allowing the body to be removed and boiled down to secure the bullet.  The three unfortunate victims were lying face down, with their feet pointing due west.
